The porthole and interior reveal

At the time of my last blog post we were mustering up the courage to cut a hole in one of the beautiful cabin walls. Well, the deed has been done…

CountryBoy did it while I was at work so when I saw it my first thought was that of a porthole. Is this a cabin or a ship, ha!

It is most definitely a cabin…

I forgot to get a photo of the outside chimney but CountryBoy had to design and build a stand for it to mount onto so that the chimney cleared the roof. He did a great job and it looks rather cool. (I’ll get a shot so you can see what I’m talking about.)

We fired this baby up last Friday while we were ‘moving in’ and setting up house. It warmed the cabin up in no time.

So, without further ado, let me show you around…

Two twin XL beds, two locally custom-made benches, an antique wash stand, a telescope and an antique coat & hat rack.

A ladder shelf with towels, books, games, coffee percolator & mugs, a vintage coal bucket that will be used as a trash can, the wood-burning stove, stove paraphernalia and a tea cart where the coffee, sugar, creamer, water jug and homemade treat platter will reside. Bottles of spring water will be stored on the bottom shelf and paper plates, utensils and tea bags will be on the middle shelf. To the right of this photo is the table and two chairs where there is a basket that will have fruit, granola bars, cereal bars and other goodies to munch on while taking in the view…

A few leaves are changing but I don’t believe we will have much of a leaf show this year. Nonetheless, the view is still amazing!

Yesterday we got started on the hand rails for the deck…

I wanted a simple, clean design that would minimize any blocking of the view so after browsing Lowe’s I went with some 4×4’s, copper tubing and deck boards. We need to get some more material to do the stairs and another piece of copper to finish the deck rail.

We also got a start on the gutters yesterday but we need to tweak them a bit in order to capture the most water coming off the roof to fill the rain barrels.

I’m tellin’ ya… I slept so good after getting the interior set up. There are still some small things I need to pick up to complete the ‘comfort-level’ for the guests and CountryBoy has some things to finish up but overall we are getting there.

Now I am turning my focus on signing up with Airbnb and creating our rental listing as well as creating a Guest Handbook. A snazzy name for the cabin/listing that would be intriguing and eye-catching would be helpful too. Any ideas?
